Officially DTC on February 17!!
To be truthful, we did not get DTC without a hitch. If you recall, we had some difficulty getting our medical letters completed accurately last fall and I actually sent up the wrong letter to AWAA in our Dossier!! I was able to overnight the correct one and AWAA was able to put it in our dossier and send it off! Now THAT is awesome service! (Thanks, Tabitha!)
Tabitha (our adoption coordinator) said they sent 21 dossiers to China today! Yeah!!

We'll Be DTC (dossier to China) This Week!
We not only got Lee's birth certificate authentication back from the Houston Chinese Consulate today (which I had sent a few days before the other one) but ON THE SAME DAY the big package came back from the Chinese Consulate in Chicago!
Now we overnight it all with passport copies, photo pages and, of course, another check, and America World will send our dossier to China on FRIDAY!!! Woyke's paperwork will also go to China on Friday!
Next we wait for the LID -- log-in date -- then we WAIT.

Ok! We got the letter from the Michigan Secretary of State today, so I will be sending everything to the Chinese Consulate UPS overnight tonight! YEAH!!

ALMOST there...
Hello -- if you have time to read and want details, proceed. If you don't, just know that our paperwork should be going to China within a few weeks -- watch for that much-anticipated blog soon.
OK, ready? I have been mad at myself because after being ridiculously meticulous about our adoption paperwork, I let something slip through the cracks!
Here's a synopsis (as brief as possible): Because my company's HQ is in Michigan, once I received my employment letter from my HR stating that I do indeed work for Entertainment, I could have sent it off to the Secretary of State of MI for authentication. I did so with each of our birth certificates (to the SOS of CO and SOS of LA, respectively) but FORGOT the employment letter. (Everything else we have goes to the SOS of MN.)
SO...NOT ONLY did it get sent out late, but we weren't receiving it back. I finally got ahold of the right person in MI last Thursday and it turns out that it was rejected because there was a problem with the notarization. I immediately called my HR dept. and spoke to the woman who notarized the document and since she had moved to a new county, it messed up her notary status.
SO...she jumped into action and re-did the letter with a new notary, and overnighted it directly to the SOS of MI with an airbill enclosed for them to send it to me overnight.
SO...if all goes according to plan, I should receive this document on the 6th of Feb (whilst you are reading, perhaps!) and can then send ALL of our stuff (except Lee's birth certificate, which has already been sent to the Chinese Consulate in Houston) to the Chinese Consulate in Chicago.
THEN...when we receive these packages back from the Consulate offices in Houston and Chicago, we will send our entire, completed dossier to America World and it will be off to the CCAA (China Center for Adoption Affairs) for LOG IN!!!! YEAH!!
SO...you don't have to tell me. I know that there is no such thing as a delay because God has a daughter for us and the right girl is already chosen to come here. BUT, my hang-up is that we have been working alongside our newfound friends and neighbors--the Woykes--who have consistently been at the same pace as we have, and they were able to send their paperwork off to the Consulate LAST MONDAY. Ideally we would love to travel in the same group as them, but if it is not meant to be... My true ideal is that our daughters come from the same orphanage because then they would have that familiarity, but again this is not up to me!!
AS ALWAYS...please pray for us to learn patience! Even though a problem came up, it was resolved with efficiency, but what bugs me is that if I had mailed that letter to the MI SOS earlier, even with the problem it wouldn't have delayed anything! OH WELL! I'll let y'all know when I receive the letter from the MI SOS!

Finally!! Something to Report!!
Hooray!!! We got our I-171H form back from the Dept. of Homeland Security! That means our fingerprints and homestudy are officially approved and our application has been sent to the American Embassy in Guangzhou, China.
What's next? We need to get all documents authenticated by the Secretary of State of Minnesota, then we send it all to the Chinese Consulate in Chicago, then they send it back to us, then we send it to our agency, and they send it to the CCAA (China Center for Adoption Affairs)!!
THEN we wait for them to tell us we have a referral (a match)!!

Repeat - It's important!
I am repeating a blog I posted on 12-10-05 since it was posted during the crazy month of December and I don't want the prayer items to get missed.
If you would like to know of some ways to pray for us and for other families going through the adoption process, here are a few. If there are things I don't mention, please contact me so that I can add them to the list:
1. You can pray for our daughter by name. We are naming her Olivia. Her middle name will be her given Chinese name or some part of that name.
2. Pray for her birthparents: their pain, their healing, their circumstances.
3. Pray for her safety.
4. Pray for her orphanage: The facilities themselves; For the Caretakers and Nannies - that Olivia and the other babies will be held and loved often; For the caretakers' strength and courage; For their sadness when they say goodbye to a child to whom they have grown attached.
5. Pray for her health and warmth. We have heard some stories about how cold it can be in some of the orphanages.
6. Pray for us. For peace in the waiting process and patience to keep remembering that Olivia will come home in God's perfect timing, NOT OURS! Pray for us as we prepare and all the many different ways in which we need to prepare.
7. Pray for the process. While we acknowledge that all will take place in God's timing, there can still be prayer for the many bureaucratic steps that occur. We haven't finished these steps ourselves as of yet, and then our lives will be in the hands of first our government and then the Chinese government. It is an interestingly woven tapestry of details and people.
8. Pray for our finances. We have made payments for one third of the process, but need much, much, more to make this happen. Also, Lee's sister Sharla and his mom are planning to go with us to China and they need to raise funds as well.
9. Pray for our fellow America World families and others who are also in this process at various stages. Pray for emotional health as many of us didn't realize what an emotional journey this is.
10. Pray for those considering adoption. It is a wonderful way to add to your family and change YOUR life and the life of a parentless child. It can be your own personal mission field.

Remembering Two Men of Faith
January 19 was Robert E. Lee's birthday. Today is the birthday of Thomas J. "Stonewall" Jackson.
