Lee Flies In! Vacation Starts! Days One and Two

THIS is where Santa spends his time when it isn't Christmas!

Saturday we drove to Phoenix via Lake Havasu City. Lee does not stop for the "Welcome to our state" signs. I am duly warned to have my window down and camera ready for shots like this:

Check out the couple on the bottom right of this picture. Maybe I should have gone with them! They look like fun!

This was our view for miles and miles. It was Lee's first time in the desert. We thought that Lake Havasu City was some fancy resort town. No. Sorry to any fans, but we didn't really like it much here. It was VIOLENTLY hot for one thing. For sure the hottest day of our trip.

Also, the only thing to see here (besides the Lake, I suppose, but we ARE Minnesotans, so...) was the original London Bridge, purchased for about $2,400,000 in 1968 and cost another $4,500,000 and three years to move it and re-build it. We just didn't get it. The London Bridge in the middle of Arizona desert. I remember when we were actually IN London hearing about this and not getting it then, either. I guess over the years it has likely paid for itself though, drawing stupid people like us there just to see the bridge. HAHA!

The rest of this day was spent driving and driving and driving. Our longest day on the road. We drove into a lightning storm and it was pretty spooky, especially when a coyote almost darted out in front of us! I screamed and gave Lee a heart attack! We arrived safely at our friend's house in Phoenix, though! Whew!

Oh... I loved Havasu City and walked the bridge... though we came down to LHC via the river where we got a small boat in Vegas and came down that way... don't you just LOVE Vegas... I never tire of that place...
