Let me start by saying we recognize the contrast between the goings on in Haiti and the joy and fun of our vacation pictures. We are very aware of the contrast of American life and life in Haiti on a daily basis, actually. We know that even when our kids come home there will still be so much sadness, hunger, evil and depravity in their home country and we will not forget. That is one reason we want to start the
Flip Flop Fleet. Another organization we plan to volunteer with (before and after the kids are home) is
Feed My Starving Children. Here is a
post from John Piper's blog (our pastor) from this week about slavery in Haiti. Children enslaved for labor in Haiti are called Restaveks. Please join us in continuing to pray for Haiti.
We also realize that even though we have thought this many times before, we truly believe NOW that our Olivia is born or will be soon. We pray for her, her birthparents, orphanage, caretakers and her birth country as well. There is such a difference for those who live in the city compared to those in the countryside of China. The parents who lost their only children in the earthquakes are on my mind a lot, too. The children in the orphanages who are too old to be adopted. I could go on and on about China, too. The bottom line is that there is so much suffering everywhere. My prayer for all of us is that we all remember to thank the Lord for the blessings we have and remember to pray for those less fortunate.

I agree. To forget about them is the ultimate insult. I know I never will.
